Could this be an object launched from earth by a verneshot (recent theory concerning mass extinctions)? -David L. Battle

No. If Verneshots exist, they result in rocks with suborbital trajectories (i.e. the rocks are orbiting Earth and crashing bacxk again very soon afterward). Phaethon is not in orbit around the Earth, it's orbiting the Sun on its own independent path, millions of miles away from Earth. There's no way a volcano could fire a rock into that kind of orbit. There's no policy or guideline either way regarding reference columns, as far as I'm aware, except for some users' preference for or against. Keep the columns, its not worth the headache. Hey @Huntster:, thank you for that clarification and I appreciate your screenshot linked above. (When I read your edit comment, linked in my first post above, I thought you might refer to something else.)

Concerning your comment, yes, I agree that in section "References", the Template:Div col should be used with caution. My rule of thumb was to use that template (with 30em) only when there are 10 or more references and the article contains sufficient text content in order to avoid the vertical stacking of images or the intrusion of an overlong infobox into that section. I will consider your feed-back and be more restrictive when using this template. Furthermore, as my edit was placed under scrutiny, let me return that favor. Please don't write <br/> in the article's source code (for reference, see amendment after Line 6:). This syntax is incorrect (both variants without slash or with a slash and a leading white space can be used though). Actually, the only disagreement between us seems to concern Help:List-defined references. You seem to prefer a format like this:

As you said, there is no rule about that. Here's my rationale: we "clean-up" the text-body of the article by moving citations into the {{Reflist}} under the |refs= attribute. Since they are no longer combined with the text, I do not see any reason to compress them. In fact, I find my way much more systematic and structured.

Finally I want you to know, that I a) greatly respect your work on Wikipedia (I remember you took great care of renaming files during the New Horizons-hype in July), b) I did in fact notice your changes, c) deliberately took so much time for my reply, and d) that I am sorry for misspelling your name and eager to earn your respect, as I came to realize that "guardians" like you are very much needed on Wikipedia. Hi Rfassbind, thanks for the comments. I think you are on the right track with moving refs to the {{reflist}} template. I absolutely prefer that method, though I'm usually hesitant to use it. I use a lovely little script from User:PleaseStand/References segregator that makes editing refs ridiculously easy, and assists in moving them to the LDR system. If you want, I'll handle that transition. If you're okay with <br /> then I'll work with that (the reason I use them is that I use a code colouring script that breaks without the closing slash for some unknown reason). Also, don't ever think to sell yourself short; you do excellent work here. A new paper shows it may be a sibling of the Geminids, rather than the parent:
